Plot Summary:19 year-old Maria works as a waitress in her parents' taverna, the \" Acropolis \". Every chance she gets she sneaks off to the cellar of the restaurant to practice the cello. Her parents do not approve of their daughter's artistic bent. When her father suddenly suffers a heart attack, Maria is forced to give up her dream and take over the running of the taverna. Her grandfather and the young Greek-German bouzouki player Michael stand by her and lend a helping hand. The taverna becomes more and more popular but Maria finds no joy in it. It leaves her with no time for her music and the impending exams at the conservatory. Michael gives her the necessary push and falls in love with her. Maria realizes that the strength and value of her identity lie in the union of the two cultures in which she lives. Then the cello meets the bouzouki and Bach the rebetiko...
