Plot Summary:With Mary in hospital for an operation Rab and Jamesie take Burney and Gash to Blackpool to take their minds off things. Predictably the mercenary boys prefer to spend the day with Mary's wealthy brother Shug and his wife, leaving Jamesie to lead Rab in the pursuit of two London girls. In Rab's case it is a poignant encounter, making him grateful for what he's got, the more so when he and the newly-discharged Mary meet the venomous old woman who was in the bed next to Mary.
