Plot Summary:A team consisting of a physicist, his wife, a young female psychic and the only survivor of the previous visit are sent to the notorious Hell House to prove/disprove survival after death. Previous visitors have either been killed or gone mad, and it is up to the team to survive a full week in isolation, and solve the mystery of the Hell House.

虽然另有原作，但是故事框架和人物设定有强烈的《邪屋》的影子（尤其是前两幕），一些分析方向似乎也可以套用。不过即使是在明确表示有鬼的情况下，恐惧环境下角色之间的隔阂和猜忌也同样是重点刻画的方向。影片惊悚氛围营造得相当成功，开头引言给人的心理暗示和全程一丝不苟的时间标注增强了纪实感。角色间的不信任和博士的唯物主义理论起了误导作用，让真相模糊不清，加上一直紧绷的气氛，使得结尾的反击非常酣畅。昏暗的影调和红色的房间足以比肩黑白摄影带来的诡异，影片许多镜头的运用也让人印象深刻
摄影很棒，各种特写镜头，仰拍镜头，第三视角镜头，只是最后谜底揭晓有点好笑，但是如果把这个鬼屋过度解读一下当做某个死而不僵的极权symbol，那感觉就又不一样了，靠爱，靠理性，都无法打败这个怪物，只有彻底拆穿它的虚伪本质才可以一举击垮。
