Plot Summary:The action begins in Moscow on July 3, 1941.Boris Borozdin, despite the reservation, goes to the front as a volunteer: \"If I'm honest, I have to,\" he leaves on the eve of the birthday of his fiancee Veronika, whom he calls Squirrel.
