携手走过三十五年的风风雨雨，住在老北京四合院的祺瑞年（李雪健 饰）晚年不得安生，相濡以沫的老伴（刘莉莉 饰）罹患晚期癌症撒手人寰，老宅拆迁以及赔偿款问题又让心怀鬼胎的儿女们搅出无数是非。儿子满雨（海一天 饰）对老婆沈洁言听计从，花招不断；女儿顺芳（李歌 饰）被虚伪粗暴的丈夫谢俊良殴打折磨，苦不堪言。拆迁后的老祺入住儿子家，虽然尽心帮他们带孩子、操持家务，却丝毫感觉不到亲情的温暖。看尽世态炎凉、失去了人生方向的老人在票友唱戏的时候结识了比自己年龄小许多的宋茹君（陶慧敏 饰），宋的温柔体贴、善解人意给了这个孤独的老人以莫大的安慰。 幸福也许不日将临，却又显得那么遥远。老祺的晚年生活，也许正是千百万中国老人们的缩影……Aged Mr. Qi lives in an old quadrangle courtyard with his beloved wife for 35 years, and now the wife died of cancer. The removing of the courtyard and the grant of compensation make the son and daughter create annoying disturbances. Qi moves into the son's home and feels no sense of life direction. Then he meets a younger woman Song who cares about his life a lot, so he takes much comfort from her.
