Plot Summary:Down the winding road of the Santa Ynez Canyons, a sorry- looking Nestor's outfit, drawn by two gaunt horses, lurches along. It pulls up at a broadening in the creek bed and a woman lifts from the seat a little girl, Honey. They look into the back of the wagon anxiously at the pale, emaciated face of the husband and father. Carefully they lift him to the ground, where he rapidly sinks, and in a few moments passes quietly out of this life. The mother falls to her knees in prayer, then taking a shovel from the wagon essays to dig a grave. She is unable to make an impression on the hard soil and taking Honey with her, goes to the top of the hill and looks about for assistance. Bad Buck dashes around a turn in the trail and comes upon the widow and her little daughter. They implore his assistance, but he refuses brutally. At length Honey prevails upon him to return with them to the camp where Buck digs the grave for the widow. He then leaves them, as he is in a hurry to get away, having ...
