Plot Summary:Anna Geissler sends a cable to Pierre informing him that he has been hired to undertake surgical research. On the other hand, the committee offers him a chair of pathology. Pierre, although being keen neither on research nor on professorship, accepts the position. As far as he is concerned, Hervé Dubois-Monnet, who is now likely to replace a senior physician, is now married to Christiane. One day, Hervé invites Anna and Pierre to big party in his private mansion. At some point during the evening, Christiane reveals to Pierre that her marriage is on the rocks. She makes it clear to him that it is him she should have chosen. To her dismay, Pierre confesses he does not love her any more...
