影片中出现了三首诗。

开篇将军回应Scho为什么只派两个人，说“Down to Gehenna or up to the Throne, 无论下到地狱还是登上王座，He travels the fastest who travels alone. 独自行进的人行进最快”。这是1907年诺贝尔文学奖得主英国著名文学家Rudyard Kipling的作品，名为《Winners胜者》。将军的权威通过诗歌传达出来，既预示了使命的达成，也不幸言中Scho独行的命运。

Scho为婴儿吟的诗，是英国诗人和画家Edward Lear的荒诞诗的一首，乘着筛篮出海必死无疑，预示前路的风险和战争的荒诞无意义。

第三首诗就是那首清扬宁静、荡气回肠的《流浪的陌生人》，由一位士兵在森林里面对几百战友唱出，传达思乡，与亲人团聚，和对天堂的向往。三首诗选段或全文附后：

1. Erinmore将军引用的是吉卜林（Rudyard Kipling，1865-1936，1907年获得诺贝尔文学奖）的诗歌《胜者》（Winners）。其第一节如下：

What the moral? Who rides may read. 何为道德？骑行的人能理解。

2. Scho所吟的是英国诗人和风景画家爱德华·李尔（Edward Lear，1812-1888）的作品，来自于其作品集A Book of Nonsense《谐趣诗集》：
