I never expected Blue was such a film; no film can be bluer – think about a 75-minute film of a single shot of the colour of blue.
In some critics, Blue is identified as Jarman’s last fight against his unrecognisd identity as a gay activist, however, I did not relised Jarman is gay – I suspected but not convincingly believed – until the explicit lyric of “I’m not gay” was repeated.
I rather consider Blue as a personal film, a self-portrait witnessing the last a few months of a deceasing soul - the soul of filmmaker. The man used his life to create the world only belonging to himself, and he shall never give up the last chance to create a little more.
