I knew Izzie was leaving the show soon, I even made the mistake of knowing Izzie and Alex were going to get married. I don't know why the thought of her dying never entered my brain, maybe it had something to do with what happened with Burke. Therefore, I was genuinely shocked when Izzie blurted out "I'm sick, aren't I?". It suddenly hit me: They were going to kill the sweetest, kindest, warmest, prettiest, considerate, selfless, generous, devoted, loving, caring and giving Izzie Stevens, the bright and bubbly girl who is literally a ray of sunshine with the most gorgeous golden hair, the beautiful, beautiful girl who has the biggest heart and the purest soul.
In the next episode, I got the clue that it would be cancer that would kill her. A slow, painful death. Then my out-of-power laptop forced me to bed with a consistent heavy sighs.
However, what I appreciated was that they gave me a chance to cry for her. To make my peace with her leaving gradually. To not end up ambushed and angry. Which were more than I got with Burke. The writers didn't do Izzie justice, the storyline of her was not even close to the same level as, say, The Big C, but the show did get a lot better because of it, and I couldn't help bursting into tears every chance I got. When a tearful Alex finally came to Izzie's bedside post-op after a day of absence and told her he was there and held her hand, when she had to lie to her mom and say that everything is ok, when Alex kissed her before her second surgery, when Alex said "I think she's gonna die on me" crying, when Alex kissed Izzie after the wedding to stop her tears, when Alex kissed her after fighting over the DNR. I have never loved kisses more than the kisses between them. Additionally, I have to mention the wedding. I have never seen a more breathtaking bride, a more romantic wedding, or a more beautiful kiss. Unfortunately, I was robbed of the surprise; but still, I was teary-eyed since before it, and all the way through.
