实习医生格蕾 第十季影评:Crazy 'bout You

So, I'm obsessed. Again. With Jackson Avery--did not see this one coming. I guess I always thought he was a good-looking guy with a not-bad personality, just didn't take much notice of him before. I remember seeing his impressive sculpted upper-body, wanting him to have a thing with Teddy, and adoring Mark's doting sentiments and paternalistic tendencies towards him. However, at the beginning of season 9, out of nowhere, I suddenly found him much more attractive than he'd ever been, his sparkly, mesmeric giant eyes along with their piercing, hypnotizing killer stare more intense than I could handle and began caring about him and only him. Perhaps it was because everyone I loved had been officially gone, and he was the best one left. He is literally Prince Charming and quite virtually flawless, hence worth every bit of my love: drop-dead gorgeous, striking limpid sometimes-green-sometimes-blue eyes of an angel, delicious-looking caramel complexion, million dollar smile, tall, the body of a god, family background prestigious in the extreme, fantastically gifted/talented surgeon, impeccable character -- nice, amiable, pleasant, honest, sincere, decent, righteous, generous, thoughtful, dependable, kind-hearted, even-tempered, level-headed, wise, confident, decisive, observant, super smart, uniquely funny, sensitive as well as sensible, strong and independent, hardworking and driven, capable of undertaking leadership and assuming responsibility, on top of a loyal guy and devoted boyfriend who doesn't sleep around and is willing to commit. Yet, for such a top-notch object of affections and dating, he's had the worst luck romantically. To begin with, his first onscreen kiss was with Yang who is ugly and had Owen, then a serious(at least for him) relationship with Lexie who loved Mark, and don't even get me started on April and Stephanie. Even back when he was with Lexie, when I didn't care much about him, I remember feeling pang after pang of pity and regret for this poor guy who loved a girl clearly in love with someone else and thinking that he deserved so much better. Just imagine how I felt having to witness April hurt him so badly after I fell in love with him. Every time he touched her it ended with her in fits of tears, treating him like garbage and ranting and raving like a mad woman. She just took him for granted and acted like she was better than him, doing him a favor to be with him. She put her foot in her mouth A LOT when he didn't deserve to be the brunt of her frustrations AT ALL. I expected that in this relationship, it should definitely be April who falls faster, commits earlier and loves more: she GAVE her virginity to him, this literally impossibly exceptional man, they had been friends for years, and he had treated her with nothing but care, respect, patience, consideration, forgiveness and tenderness/gentleness; he had been nothing short of an adult, a grown-up, a true gentleman, a real cavalier to her. But instead, right after she is done jerking the sweetest Jackson around, she immediately finds a guy she barely knows, who is also handsome and wonderful to her but somehow gets much, much better treatment from her, falls in love and gets married? Come on, what sort of storyline is that? How is that any fair? Run-of-the-mill girl April living happily ever after, with extraordinary guy Jackson still hung up on her, caught and trapped in one-sided love once again? He had true feelings for her and he really wanted to marry her and she was callous about his feelings? He was all in and she wasn't? Shouldn't it be the other way around this time? Haven't they tortured him enough? Doesn't an all-around amazing guy like Jackson deserve the best? Let alone such crap? Let alone such crap twice? I mean, really!?!
Despite all that, I still want April to be the one for Jackson. Because she is the best-looking one out of the bunch. Because they were together first and I didn't dislike them together. Because she is his closest and oldest friend having known each other since they were interns and therefore someone he's always felt the need to protect. Most of all, because he wants her with him so I have to too if I wish him to be happy. Therefore, I'm looking forward to them getting back together and getting it right, of course. But before that, I want them to torture April like they did to Jackson. Actually, I want them to torture her harder than they tortured him. I want her to suffer for breaking his heart so bloody ruthlessly. I want her to pay for it. Actually, I want her to pay twice, three times the price for it.
I HATE the fact that they had to pull them apart and find them each a partner of their own race. I RESENT the message this sends. The Jackson/April pairing is an interracial pairing, but it works. Jackson is non-Caucasian, but he is much better-looking than any other guy on the show. What are they trying to say, you have to be white to get a pretty white girl, no matter how outstanding you are? You can only find spouses with the same skin color?
As for Stephanie, I don't think I need to say anything more than the following: I'm a hardcore fan who ship couples. I act crazy stupid when someone comes between my couples. It's certainly childish, but it's just the way that I am.

"Jackson proposed to her and she said yes, but then basically said no, and all of the sudden she just accepted a proposal. But then Jackson almost dies and she decides now she wants him? Put yourself in his shoes — that’s gotta feel a little crappy!" -- Sarah Drew

Forget about racial pairings, I never wanted them to break up in the first place. Because although she was incredibly unfeeling, unbelievably cruel and above all totally & entirely unworthy of him(but, let's face it, who isn't?), he was finally in a promising relationship with someone he understands and trusts, who happens to be his best friend. More importantly, because he genuinely loved her. The first time he uttered those three magic words was to her. He's seen every single side of her, the good and the bad, and he loves it all. That's truly special. Even after they did, I really hoped that they don't have April sleeping with anyone else. Because how special and how exclusive and how romantic would it be, for Jackson to be her first and last, her one and only -- forever and always? However, based on 11 episodes, I dare say my own wishful thinking will get mercilessly crushed -- again. To sum up, they will both sleep with other people then maybe get back together. (Kind of like Mark and Lexie, except I was absolutely positive the love was mutual there whereas I'm not given such luxury here.) Not only does that destroy the good basis that this relationship had as best friends to more, but it almost cheapens it to have either or both of them go that route. I get that it's TV, and they need drama, but using love, marriage and commitment solely as a tool to destroy the characters over and over again is lazy. These writers are so freakin' lazy, it's maddening. I don't understand why the writers couldn't explore their relationship differently with it evolving slowly into something even more beautiful. So right now, I am burning with inveterate hatred against Matthew, against Stephanie. In my heart, Jackson and April are MFEO. (Explanation: They're BFFs. They know one another like the back of their hand, plus mutual unmistakable understanding and shared unconditional trust long-lived between them. No one -- and I do mean no one -- would ever be able to get them better than each other. How rarely, if ever, does fate bless us with so high a level of intimacy? How could you find a more perfect foundation for love? How pricelessly precious is that kind of love -- the all-but-extinct greatest love of all? That's where the unquestionable gospel truth "marry your best friend" and the spot-on eternal verity "Don't marry the person you think you can live with; marry only the individual you think you can't live without."(couldn't be more altogether-fitting-and-proper regarding April's circumstance, could it?) lies. That's what a one-in-a-million, bound-by-destiny, meant-to-be-together couple made of irreplaceable soul mates is undoubtedly like. That's how people achieve a fairytale ending in real life.)
Additionally, just in case it wasn't already painfully obvious or evident or self-explanatory or whatever. I. Am. A. Hopeless. Romantic.

December 21
I had a dream this morning that April gave birth to a pair of twins, both of whom sported Jackson's huge, magnetically bewitching, mysteriously color-altering eyes. And it felt like heaven to me. ('I love this couple. They just need to get together and have ridiculously pretty babies. Seriously.' My point exactly.)
