‘I am not OK with this’, produced by Netflix. It’s a very short movie drama with less 20 minutes per episode, and only consists of 7 episodes totally. So it just took me approximately 2 hours to see it through the beginning to the end.
It’s an extremely excellent drama. It’a story about a girl in the first class of high school, whose father just hung himself in their basement. The girl was in her adolescence and suffered form the irritability stemming from nowhere, and the worst thing was the painfully sadness of losing her father, and she had to bear the sadness by herself, because her mother didn’t talk with this topic at all.
This was the background of the story. The series involved these tiny and fragile elements very smoothly in the story line. I can’t help to introduce the main topic the story wanted to say—— the young girl gradually found she had some kind of super power——she could remote control items. Although this kind of setting is not new, the most great thing is that the story told viewers carefully and gradually, beginning with the girl controlling a drop of water, to making a nasty classmate nose bleeding, ending with making the same guy head bombed.
There are a lot of advantages to say. What we can see from the quality of picture and the scenes is that this drama didn’t spend a lot of money, in other words, it’s a low-cost film. The story happened in a small town which just with only above 5,000 people. Every sentence, every role, and every plot in the film, was carefully planned. During we saw this film, we didn’t realize the purpose of the little pot or the pair of communities, but when we finally reached the ending of the story, we realized all the meaning of the purpose offered by the former pots. The story continued step by step, and without one of the pots in the story lines, the story is not complete.
There are 3 mainly lines leading the story: one is connected with love which mainly happened at the school, saying about the the process of the girl how to found out her sexual orientation; another line is connected with family, which ending with finding out what happened to her father and being reconciled with her mother; the last line is about the secrete power, beginning form unawareness to fear and hate, ending with acceptance and control. Lesbian, losing father, super power, each of these is abundant and complex enough to weave a story. Three unusual things happened on one usual little girl. The story made the strange things become believable through a lot of reality and tiny detail, such as the leading role’s best friend wearing her boyfriend’s coat, the neighbor boy although is clever, sometimes felt too good, especially after the first time the spent together.
The film combined with several types of film: comedy, thriller, youth and low-cost. I guess maybe there is a trend of some low-cost film, combining together with some great different types in one work.
