It is the first film of Ning Ying's that I have ever seen. The film examines fast changes happening to Beijing from the perspective of a taxi driver, like new buildings shooting up like bamboos breaking the ground after a spring rain, international clubs with people from all over the world, people's attitude changing into being proud of marrying a foreign old man.
Life of low income earner is miserable. They have to worry about basic needs in life and are desperate of earning more money.
Again it is proved that the partner that one marries to is not necessarily he/she loves.
Within 90 minutes, Ning has presented life of taxi driver Dezi's everyday like so vividly is a great thing. It is sure this is also becaus of leading actor's great performance. But the thing I am not so much fond of it is that it lacks of climax in my opinion, meaning I can not feel the exciting part after seeing the whole film.
