我的青春期

As time goes by, I start to hate watching one kind of tv series named situation comedy, like The Big Bang Theory and Friends. The life of characters in this particular kind of series is often patterned by episode, during which, they might encounter some problems and would solve them in the end. As each episode is independent, we rarely observe some minor changes in the characters’ relationships. For instance, Rachel and Monica had a fight. Then after several episodes, they have made it up and we will hardly think of any possible change in their relationship later. Even if these real-life stories are funny, I feel alienated and anxious every time watching them. It’s like, real-life issues will never be that controllable, which let you easily forget and forgive. My so-called life is doing exactly the opposite.

The main character, Angela Chase, has invented many cool lines for us GEN-Zs. I doubt if she is the first person who says “You're so beautiful, it hurts to look at you.” which expresses the same mood as Caroline Polacheck’s song so hot you’re hurting my feelings. My favorite episode is about the “Halloween Mystery”. Angela got an early-year high school student’s clothes as a costume belonging to someone of her mother’s age. She found a slip of paper in the pocket, which is about a James Dean tragic style boy. That boy died in an accident many years ago on Hallows Eve. Angela has been hallucinating ever since, worrying that Jordan Catalano, her dream lover, will not have a good ending either. This isn't the only episode where angela sees ghosts. The phantom that appears in this show evokes sadness in my heart.

Watching every episode of My so-called life is like spending a long and confusing night alone. Sometimes, we suffer from insomnia and hope to see the sunrise soon(this is often common when we’re hanging out with our besties the next day). Sometimes, we wish to be in a dream forever. We will never know if Angela and Rayanne will become close again. Will Angela marry some guy like Brian instead of Jordan ten years later? All of this ends suddenly at episode 19, and so does my own teenage dream.
