First, I have to state that actually the tv series is totally based on the game and literally served as a supplement for the game, so I’m going to talk about the plot in a whole.
I feel very bad about the basic scientific setting of the whole drama, as I find it very unconvincing and logically mistaken. I’ve always thought that if the material is about sci-fi, then it’s foundation settings have to be quite convincing, at least you won’t be able to point out the clear mistakes in it. Otherwise, watching this would be a complete catastrophe because you yourself don’t even believe in the story, then what good will that do? In this drama specifically, the thing I couldn’t agree with is the ‘Grandmother paradox’. When Paul actually meet with his future self in act1, I know it couldn’t be a very scientifically self-consistent game. But what I couldn’t understand more is how desperate and stupid the characters are within the game. I understand the content of Novikov self-consistency principle, but the game was trying to illustrate the theory on its broken plot? Nonsense. Why don’t you just shoot your previous self in the head and see what happens, Paul? It’s not even a time loop! It’s not a loop! Don’t fool me with your broken logic please.
And there’s a bunch of logically mistakes concerning every characters, for example, why would Liam and Charlie turn their back on each other? They’re simply believing what they want to believe. Likewise, if Paul knew at the beginning that the counter measure could save the whole world, would he even try to establish Monarch? I just think at the end of all this, these characters don’t even think about what they are doing and whether it’s right, they are just overusing their flooding and powerless belief. This whole story could be ended before it’s beginning, as long as Paul is a little bit better at physics and has less arrogant ambition.
I’d say these stupid bastards MURDERED THE ‘WHOLE’ WORLD.
