The film bears the same title of Faulkner's short story in which the protagonist Emily Grieson poisons her lover Homer, and keeps his corpse for years. The whole town do not know her secert until she dies and then the corpse is discovered. The “rose” in the title “A Rose for Emily” is a tribute to Miss Grieson, a poor tragic lady and it also indicates a withering rose, the corpse of her lover Homer. “A Rose for Emily” is one of the best of Faulkner’s short stories and is adapted to this mini movie in its entirety.
