［The reason I chose this movie］
Keira Knightley is one of my favorite actresses. I love those movies that tell a pure love story by a smooth and quiet way. My mind will be twined by those lasting love for a period.
［Plot］
This story is about love, a man with two women. The French man Herve was married with a kind beautiful teacher Helene in France. One day the man had to leave for Japan to smuggler healthy silkworms where he became obsessed with the concubine of a local baron. The concubine is an eastern mystery to Herve, she never told him a word but she already had his heart. She gave him a slip written in Japanese. He backed to France get the slip translated, a sentence was on it:” Come back or I shall die.” Without a moment of hesitation he ran to his Venus. But this time he is not that lucky, Japan was suffering a civil war, what he can do is watching the concubine walking away. A letter arrived, the man never backed to Japan. Several years later, the man had realized that the letter was written by his wife who died a few years ago. The poor woman thought that her husband actually loves the concubine not her, in order to stop Herve travelling to the dangerous place, she asked a woman to write that letter, the woman told Herve later that when Helene read the letter she could feel how much she desired to be the woman who supposed to write it. Time fades, when senility came, the old man sitting in the Helene’s garden, suddenly knew the real one occupied his heart is his wife Helene but is too late.
［Characters］
Herve: Every man has the same dilemma during life. They will have two woman, one is his wife, they stay together everyday, so the passion gradually died away. The other is a mysterious woman, she is beautiful attractive and untouchable, so she is always appearing in his dreams. So is the situation with Herve. Fortunately, he found the answer.
Helene: she is a tragedy, she cannot have a baby, her husband had another woman to dream but she is still elegant, still tender and still beautiful. What can make a women so strong to forgive her husband’s unfaithfulness? I guess is love, a love which is beyond life.
