Like a comment under this movie "fucking amazing", after finishing watching this movie, what remained in my brain is just damn marvelous. As a low-cost movie, it shows us that the content means more than the form.

On a normal day, a young man named John, who's just 35 years old and has already become a professor at Harvard, suddenly decided to leave this city and move to an unknown place (he hasn't decided yet), all of his friends felt so puzzled about it, so a story, or put it in another way, a show begins.

In such a special narrating way, just like a tea party between intimate friends, they started to solve the mysteries around John, such as his keeping the same appearance for ten years, the masterpiece of Vincent Van Gogh, his almost knowing everything, and so on.

Similar to three classical questions in philosophy, "who I am", "where did I come from?" and "where should I go?", by talking about the place John next would go, they eventually solved the problem of where he came from, he's a caveman. Just as the setting in the movie, several sofas, a fireplace, and some people, it can't be easier to remind we audience of Plato and his cave theory, if that was a theory for culture's beginning, then this movie can be seen as the retrospect of humankind's civilization. From the early civilization to current histories, from geography to biology, from psychology to archaeology, from religions to music, and of course himself. But such colossal theories and wisdom were narrowed down to one movie, it really would make us feel a little bit shallow and not so religious.

Several details make me feel interested, John's device-pun name, John Oldman, noticing this for the first time was when workers were moving the sofa, but to my amazement, it's also a foreshowing of the end. Also, that he is the Jesus was just within my anticipation, but Edith's attitude makes things deeper, once connecting with a real human, religion cannot be just the cold theories, it already becomes a backbone of him or her. Chinese box is also fancy parlance, actually if I were there, I would call it a Russian Nesting doll, yep, I never heard of Chinese box, even though I've already lived here for 22 years. The end is really really really unexpected, Dr. Will was his son, just looking to what was said before, "half of the people present are your offspring." And love is really a permanent topic, and anyway, I believe in it.
