这一部分讲了普京的背景和童年，以及普京上台前的故事，其中说到苏联解体时，普京的这段话让我印象很深刻：
First of all.Most important thing is that after the disintegration of the Soviet Union,25 million Russians found themselves abroad in one night.And that was one of the greatest catastrophes of the 20th century.
我觉得从这里可以看出普京至少是有人文关怀的，一个国家在一夜间解体，2000万人的家变成了所谓的国外，原来的关系、生活环境都发生了改变。
在说到普京的生活时，也聊到纪律的重要性，他每天晚上12到1点睡觉，早上7点起床，这给了他不多的睡眠，但能让人保持一个相对清醒的头脑，这个是比较重要的。
第1部分有不少篇幅谈到车臣战争，战争给俄罗斯和车臣带去了巨大的伤亡和损失，甚至蔓延到了达吉斯坦共和国，这里普京的一段话，也让我们看到了普京在中东地区的责任：
When Dagestan was not just urging us,they were crying to us."If you dont want to protect us,Russia,then give us arms and we'll do that ourselves.
说到在苏联解体后美国政府的状态时，这段发言也相当有启示：
They（指美国）were under the illusion that the U.S. was capable of anything,and they could do that with impunity.That's always a trap.Because in this situation,the person or the country begin to commit mistakes.There is no need to analyze the situations,or think about the consequences.And the country becomes inefficient.
