I like basketball and NBA because I am a fan of YI Jianlian. I don’t pay close attention to Yao Ming. All I know about him is that he is 2.29 tall. Because of his height, I go into wrong understanding of Yao Ming. I always hold the opinion that as he is tall, it is much easier for him to play basketball well in NBA. After I saw the film called Year of the Yao, I treated him with increased respect.
Yao joined Rockets as both Number One Scholar and the first Chinese who Plays NBA. It is no wonder that he was under a lot of pressure. What’s worse, he was not good at English and American culture at that time. He had to be adapted to the totally different environment while learning a new kind of basketball playing style. Any one of the tasks is difficult for a normal person. He said that he had to restart as if he were reborn in America. We couldn’t image how hard it was for Yao to make every little progress in NBA. No one thought he would be a best basketball player because they regarded such tall as stupid. Yao’s first game was not played well because he was nervous and was not familiar with NBA. It is normal and should be understood. However, the narrator even sneered at Yao and bet that if Yao could get more than 19 points, he would kiss Keeny’s ass. What an insult it is! What’s worse, O’neal also had no high opinion of Yao. If I were Yao, I must have cried again and again and even wanted to commit suicide. However, Yao just smiled away. He felt depressed but never give up. He worked harder than before. No pains, no gains. Yao scored 30 in one game and he made people believe that he could succeed by his own action. O’neal was strong but Yao was never afraid of him. He regarded O’neal as a mountain on his way. He tried his best to defeat O’neal.
More and more people become fans of Yao gradually. Yao becomes a kind of spirit—never give up and challenge everything. Though he has less and less free time after he becomes popular, he still tried his best to do everything. Nowadays, he is injured in playoffs with Lakers. I hope he could become healthy quickly and wish him to go further in the state of NBA. I am proud of Big Yao!
