I saw this short film on Youtube through links after watching "Fallen Art". It had been viewed by 4,976,766 people so I randomly clicked and thought that it would be worth having a look. At first the scene was bright and the man's smile indicated his satisfaction with life. Though he seemed to be ordinary and without any great achievement, he felt surrounded by love and cares. Coffee, which symbolised the stress experienced, was only present a few times and acted as an 'eustress' to stimulate his passion and provide energy. Yet as time was passing by, the centre of his life became 'coffee'. He was burdened with too much stress and distorted by the habit of living dependent on coffee. The old woman as well as the child, was confronted by his anger, attack and agitation instead of compassion. Stress had driven the man to a machine to abreact due to the overwhelming frustration. He failed to realise that, after all, what he truly needed was life, not the unlimited cups of coffee. He had lost himself in the ocean of stress until he killed himself by drinking coffee. As human beings, we all experience stress at some stages in life. However, we need to strip the shackles and give ourselves time to reflect. Compared to stress, love and cares probably deserve more of our attention and time. Don't let stress drown you to death.
