This film is a family drama typical of the Oedipus Complex, with William Shakespear representing the power father that enjoys all powerful presence in the family. The result is tragedic, with the wife taking the master bedroom, him being in the guest room, the beloved son for fear of the loss of his father's favor drwoning himself, the elder daughter being told by her husband to have extra-marriage affairs, and the younger daughter staying single though beautiful and clever.

What caused the change is the softening of the father, who first gives up the writing, the representative assertion of the father's power, the submssion to his wife's sacrifice for the family, admission of his neglect of his father's duty to the youngest daughter, and then solving the slander threat for his elder daughter though he doubts the slander is true. The peaceful worldly pleasure of a united family and a happy inner marriage both for himself and his daughters comes into being at the price of reducing the fatherly power.

Another conflict is between the fater's calim that all is true and the dauther's complaint that nothing is true. This is from two different points of view, one from omnipotent father with the imagination throughout the world, the opposit from the female of 17th centrury without the inheritive right. The power decides the world view, one from the all powerful Godly perception, the Other from the cynic repressed female.
