Fair Is Foul And Foul Is Fair

Parallel to West Side Story, the Tragedy of Macbeth adapts the drama of Shakespeare in its purest form without making any alternation to the origin.

However, even with the plot that cannot be any more well-known, Joel Coen still managed to add in some personalized ornamentations. The appearance of the witches reminds me of Gollum from Lord of the Rings, eerie, loathsome, but not as intimidating as I’d expected. I’m ashamed to say that this is the first Denzel Washington movie I’ve watched, but he does a fantastic job pulling up the character depraved, deeply poisoned by prophecy and lust of power, and finally overthrown by his own superstition. Frances McDormand also presents us with the malicious Lady Macbeth, consumed by insomnia and guiltiness.

I understand the purpose of including exact articulations of Shakespeare’s work, but it’s too difficult to comprehend. Nice stage-design, outstanding sound effects, and great actings, of a very old story.
