Shrek is an animation movie, based on a children’s book. There are two levels of the movie. The level of a simple children’s story— an orge trying to rescue an enchanted princess, locked away in a castle guarded by a terrible fire-breathing dragon and finally the two fall in love despite some silly misunderstanding at first. The second level, full of collage, parody, allusion and imitation, etc. For example, the Lord must marry a princess to be a king, “maybe you shouldn’t judge people before you get to know them.”, “by night one way, by day another.”, “take love’s true form” and why princess want to mary the Lord rather than Shrek at first, these matephors can only be decoded in full detail by some mature minds.
