at the beginning, i was hoping to see the whole development of wikileaks and the relations associated under political circumstances. as the film goes on, the director/screenwriter turns to show the vague friendship between Assange and Schmitt, in which Schmitt realises Assange's 'dark' side. No doubt that in the end, Assange is the madness.
and those above is not the wierd part. what is more bizzar is the way how the director/screenwriter deals with US government. here, please allow me to use the lame word OMG! The US government has certainly become hero because they care about human lives sooooo much that they manage to save their guy in Lybia. stupidly, this heroic behavior comes from the romance between the US official and the man they have saved. how ridiculous.
what role does The Guardian play? the wily fox. very positive, the voice of poeple, the hero that can fight against governments, the spokesman for justice...oh dear, save it!
till the end of the film, there is not a single sharp atittude toward Assange and his wikileaks empire. the director does not dare to say it. from The Guardian editor's mouth, Assange is somewhat praised. then the scriptions show how Assange gets himself into sexual assault. the final interview-like speech from Assange makes him a lier.
really?
let's see, in real life, the different results of Assange and his long partner Schmitt. Assange is being trashed in generally, a crime maker. Schmitt, however, becomes somewhat thinker and hero, a quite positive figure. how can be this different? they worked together through all the big events of wikileaks! how interesting is that! so who could be hypocritical? and who could be lying?
it can be the most significant thing refering to information sharing, privacy and human rights associated. it is supposed to be a wonderful film. but it turns out a huge disappointment.
