Some of the problem of the world are so difficult to solve, problems of disease, of poverty… And so it's inspirational to see somebody actually solve a problem.
It's not a huge problem in the world, at least it was solved.
The modern city is a new kind of nature, man-made nature.
But for the designer, the world is not enough.

Good design is innovative.
Good design make a product useful.
Good design is aesthetic design.
You need to create something that is adaptive, you need to build in flexibility and you need to allow the person they are right to customise the experience that you are creating for them.
Modernism is always about enormous expectation, and provocation mixed with disappointment.
Modernism is a poetic reflection of the modern age, so you bend a steel tube and you stretch some canvas, and you've got an modern object, hence, a functional object, but they weren't functional. I have a lot of Bauhaus furniture in my house. It is, without exception, none of it is comfortable. I don't sit on those chairs very often, I sit in a comfortable chair and look at those chairs. And that's basically what they're for, is to look at.

A round movement is better than an up and down movement.
This ability to sort of back away from the material world and think about it in methods which are wiser, deeper, better considered, that is what differentiates design from all craft work. It's not a superficial practice, it;s not about glamour or branding or typography, it really is about mankind and what mankind has created.
